Alcohol

Severity scale:
Caution
This toxin is considered to be a moderate risk. However, your pet's medical history, age, weight, and breed could put him/her at higher risk. It is advised that you contact whiskerDocs or your primary veterinarian for further guidance about any steps you may need to take to ensure your pet's safety. If you choose to, you may monitor your pet closely, but the onset or worsening of any of the below symptoms warrants a trip to the emergency room.

Alcohol can pose the same risks to your pet as it does to humans, except your pet is much more sensitive to the effects of alcohol than most humans are. In fact, alcohol poisoning in pets is more common than most people think! This is because alcohol can be found in many different places. Beyond the classic beer or shot of whiskey, alcohol can be found in many other things from rum-soaked fruitcake to unbaked dough containing yeast, and all could result in alcohol poisoning and other life-threatening problems.  Do not leave your beer bottle or mixed drink in any place your pet may decide to explore!
